I admire these international stars for making a sometimes very difficult adjustment to the USA way of life. When interviewed, foreign born players often impressively speak English fluently even though it may be their 3rd or 4th language. They should be commended for their work ethic, on and off the court.
It is the American born "jock" who often makes me cringe when interviewed or even worse when they become the "interviewer". The NBA seems to be the biggest grammatic offender in American sports. I can just imagine the horror when an alumnus hears announced ,"from the University of blablabla, Charles B^**er",who when interviewed breaks just about every grammatical rule in the book.
I think that in order for the athlete to be announced with his University's moniker, he must be a graduate of said school. I also believe that the school must give permission for the school's name to be announced in association with the player. We all know that most jocks didn't go to class anyway.
The biggest sinner here is the sports media. They have hired many barely literate people with horrid speaking skills to broadcast and comment on sports events. What kind of message does this send to our youth? I urge the execs at espn, cbs, nbc, abc, and all the over broadcast networks to choose commentators who can properly speak the language, or give us a BIGGER MUTE BUTTON!
